Parents and Teachers role in Adaptive and Self-paced Learning for students

Teachers are always working for their students. Preparing lesson plans, working on creating just the right assignments and notes, keeping parents informed and doing everything to help the kids learn and grow in the best ways possible.  Apart from dealing with these day-to-day school mundane tasks teacher face two important issues i.e. learning needs of students and students’ knowledge gaps.

Different Learning NeedsClassrooms are filled with students with different learning needs. Their dreams, their background, their upbringing are different. Also each student has different attention span and learning curve. The same class has few over achiever students and few under believer.  Most teachers would prefer giving eye to overachievers as they are usually attentive, enthusiastic, and want to excel.

Student Knowledge GapsHow are the knowledge gaps created? As an instructor teaches a class, students inevitably will experience learning gaps. Left untreated, these gaps cause student to fall further behind. Thus they become knowledge gaps which hinder their progress afterwards. Such students become under believers in the class.

The pain points what we find are -
  1. Classrooms are filled with students with different learning needs
  2. Teacher face challenge managing over-achievers and under-believers
  3. Students Knowledge Gap's hamper's their learning curve

Still, Teacher has to…
  1. Help the students to realize his or her own potential, and faults.
  2. Help the student to deal with disappointments.
  3. Give attention to individualize learning of each student.

parent's role in their child's education is very importantThe productive partnerships between students, parents, schools helps maximizing student engagement and achievement. Parents are the first and continuing educators of their children. Parents find short cuts by employing private tuition or private classes and the story repeats. The knowledge gaps are rarely filled. The tuition's are focused on grades business rather than correcting the knowledge gaps. This is a challenging question for the parent that they need to think about seriously.

It is high time that India needs to adopt Adaptive and Self-paced Learning. Globally, developers of educational software are also playing a critical role in embracing the education system. Software can determine where a student’s competencies lie and then adaptively tailor exercises for the student in order to fill in any gaps. The effect is greatest when the software is integrated into a school program. In a large classroom, teacher alone or software alone cannot get results. Parents should take active interest and help students learn in self-paced manner. Teacher and Parents could embrace the adaptive learning methodology and play close attention to the effect on their kids.

Albert Einstein said, "Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid".

You may discover you have a gem in your child.  Parents and Teachers help Students Identify Knowledge Gap. Help them bridge the gaps with the help of self-paced adaptive learning and help them build foundation for future.
